Minak Friends
Minak Reserve is an important recreation space for the community containing good quality remnant vegetation. The vegetation is comprised of 3 ecological vegetation classes, Shrubby Foothill Forest, Damp Forest and Herb Rich Foothill Forest. Minak Reserve and associated road reserves play an important role providing wildlife corridors to the nearby National Park and Black Hill Bushland Reserve. Minak Reserve is also an important source of habitat trees lacking in the surrounding landscape due to past logging activities. Creeks and drainage lines within Minak form part of headwaters to Monbulk Creek.
Minak friends was led by Darcy Duggan until his passing in 2020 and was a place of special significance to Darcy due to its biodiversity values and natural beauty. Minak Friends aims to help preserve this reserve both for the community to continue to enjoy and also to honour Darcy, his legacy and all his work in looking after our environment.
Minak Friends meets the first Sunday of every month (except January) from 10am to 12.30pm approx. followed by a cuppa. We welcome anyone who would like to join us, learn more about local plants and weeds and help us in looking after this special reserve.
