Indigenous Plant Nurseries
There are many nurseries from which you can obtain native and or indigenous plants.
The southern Dandenongs are serviced by the Southern Dandenongs Community Nursery which is located within the grounds of Birdsland at 271 Mt Morton Road Belgrave Heights. Opening hours are 9am-12pm Sunday, 9am-4pm Tuesdays and Fridays.
Southern Dandenongs Community Nursery stocks a wide variety of local provenance indigenous plants, from Eucalypts to ground covers and grasses. Prices start at $3.
Become a member of the nursery and you will be eligible for free plants in exchange for volunteering a few hours to help produce the stock.
The Knox Environment Society Nursery is located behing the Ferntree Gully Library on the Burwood Highway - in between the Brenock Park Drive intersection and Glenfern Road intersection. KES has a wide variety of local plants suitable to the Hills, especially the Upwey area and runs information sessions on local plants. Opening hours are Thursdays 10m until 4pm, Saturdays and Sundays 10 until 1pm.
The Helmeted Honeyeater Nursery, 1217 Macclesfield Road, Yellingbo also stocks plants suitable for Hills gardens. Opening hours are 9am until 3pm on Tuesday and Thursday and 9am to 12noon on the first saturday of the month, April to December.
