Southern Dandenongs Landcare Group Inc. (SDLG)
Who we are
The Southern Dandenongs Landcare Group (SDLG) was founded in August 2007 with the aim to protect and preserve the remnant vegetation of the southern section of the Dandenong Ranges, particularly the water catchments which are home to our locally threatened platypus population
Our mission is to engage and educate local residents in how to care for our increasingly threatened local bushland areas and the very special creatures dependent on them in an effort to enrich local community life and preserve our natural heritage for posterity. All of our activities and events are family friendly with children warmly welcomed. We are a Child Safe organisation.
The group covers areas from Belgrave South and Heights, Belgrave, Selby, Lysterfield, Upper Ferntree Gully, Ferny Creek, Tecoma to Kallista. We share an eastern boundary with Johns Hill Landcare Group which covers Menzies Creek, Clematis and Emerald.
Volunteers
Volunteers are critical to the success of our efforts and those of the many ‘Friends’ groups across the Hills. All groups hold regular working bees on reserves and trails and all groups need volunteers, both casual and ongoing. Participate as often as you wish! Check out the ‘Get Involved’ section of this website or email us for more information.
We are also always looking for people to join our Committee to help with admin, finances, social media and events.
Committee Meetings
Committee meetings are normally held during the third week of each month. Meetings are held at the Birdsland Environment Education Centre next to the community nursery or via Zoom. All members are welcome to attend.
